Welcome to Tidewater Counselling.

Welcome. I’m Sophie Usher, RCC (Registered Clinical Counsellor), and I want you to know that you don’t have to navigate your healing journey alone. As a trauma-informed counsellor on Vancouver Island, I offer a gentle, collaborative space where safety and compassion are at the heart of our work. I support individuals, couples, and youth 16+ in exploring trauma processing, nervous system regulation, relational attachment, communication, and boundaries. Together, we’ll move at a pace that honors your needs, building a trusted alliance to help you find grounded resilience and a more secure sense of self.

Individuals

A warm, non-judgmental space to process anxiety, trauma, and life transitions. Together, we explore patterns and build grounded resilience for sustainable healing at your own pace.

Couples

Navigating relational patterns and strengthening attachments. I focus on communication, boundaries, and emotional attunement to help you navigate conflict and deepen your connection.

Youth 16+

Supporting teenagers through the critical transitions of adolescence with compassion. We focus on identity exploration, nervous system regulation, and building emotional resilience in a non-judgmental environment.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing helps you process distressing memories, reducing their emotional impact and allowing for adaptive resolution.

EMDR Therapy

My therapeutic approach integrates evidence-based modalities designed to foster deep healing and resilience. By focusing on the vital intersection of the mind, body, and nervous system, I support clients in navigating trauma, enhancing regulation, and establishing healthy relational boundaries. Drawing upon specialized training in EMDR, Somatic Attachment, and Emotionally Focused Therapy, I also utilize the PREP couples counselling framework to help partners strengthen communication, manage conflict, and protect their connection. I provide a warm, clear, and professional space for you to process your experiences and cultivate sustainable, long-term growth.

My Therapeutic Approach

Cultivating present-moment awareness to help you observe your thoughts and body sensations without judgment, fostering deeper nervous system regulation.

Mindfulness

Integrating body-centered awareness with attachment theory to heal relational wounds and build a secure sense of self and connection with others.

Somatic Attachment
Emotion Focused Therapy

EFT helps individuals and couples understand and work with emotions to create safer, more connected relationships.

PREP is an evidence-based framework that helps couples strengthen communication, manage conflict, deepen friendship, and protect their relationship from negative patterns.

PREP Model
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps clients notice and gently shift unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours, building more balanced coping tools.

About Sophie

Outside of counselling, I enjoy spending time with my many animals, taking long walks in the woods, and seeking out hidden gems across Vancouver Island. Quiet moments by the ocean help ground me in my practice, and I’m often drawn to all things fantasy. I feel most at home when I’m rooted in nature, as it allows me to bring a centered and attuned presence to the work we do together.

My professional background is rooted in community non-profits, crisis response, substance use support, and systems navigation. These experiences have deeply informed my practice, allowing me to understand the complex realities and systemic hurdles my clients often navigate. I am passionate about moving beyond clinical talk to support you in accessing the vital services and resources you need to find stability and lasting healing.

I hold a Bachelor of Psychology from the University of Victoria and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I have completed Basic EMDR training with EMDR Consulting and am currently in a two-year Somatic Attachment program (Complete January 2027) I am committed to ongoing professional development and continually integrate current, evidence-informed approaches to best support my clients
